SUMO,
There is no appeal in
progress. The motion passed.
I agree with Matthew that the
word sounds like SUMO was approved. Suggest changing
'SUMO was passed by mtion.." to " the SUMO starter document was approved
as a work item by motion..."
Suggest changing "SUMO was
developed" to "SUMO is being developed..."
Suggest changing "the SUMO was
created..." to "the SUMO starter document was created..."

Dear
Allan,
The SUMO has
not been approved. The motion was to start work on the SUMO. It is even
contentious whether that motion was passed as I understand there is an appeal
in progress.

I propose the following change
for the first paragraph of the SUMO home page
The SUMO was developed
under the auspices of the IEEE Standard Upper Ontology Working Group. The
SUMO was created at Teknowledge by Ian Niles and Adam Pease (the principal
investigator), with a contribution by Chris Menzel. The SUMO began as a
synthesis of a wide range of publicly available formal content (please see a
partial
history of versions), and this synthesis was guided by feedback from the
SUO Working Group. Please see the primary paper. The SUMO was approved by Motion
2 of the group
