BLE. Note 7

It ought to be fairly clear by now that it is all but impossible
to patch together an accurate interpretation of Peirce's thought
from the bits and pieces that make it past the cutting board and
through the sieve -- like some kitchen sink Scylla and Charybdis --
the unanalyzed mix of reductionism and syntacticism that was the
standard excuse for a logical system, vintage 1950 or so. To be
as fair as possible, it is not the fault of the syntactic system
that its users use it to replace every 3-adic notion in Peirce's
philosophy with a complex of 2-adic nutritional substitutes from
which the original idea can never again be reconstituted. It is,
after all, not impossible to do rudimentary arithmatics in roman
numerals, no matter how clumsily, and it is likewise possible to
represent 3-adic relations in just about anyone's pet version of
"first order logic" (FOL), no matter how clumsily. And so it is
necessary to look to other sources for the cause of this evident
lack of interpretive capacity.
