Senior Ontologist/DB Engineer Key words: Ontology, Cyc, Ontolingua, first order logic, knowledge engineering, knowledge representation, database federation, database design, Oracle, object-relational technology, Java Desired Qualifications: Two years experience with the Cyc knowledge-base. Five years of ontology experience. Academic training or equivalent in first order logic. Masters degree in computer science or equivalent education preferred. A passion for precise and clear specification and documentation of formal domain knowledge. Serious relational database or Java/software engineering skills. TS very desirable. Key Duties: Mapping various structured data schema sets into an object relational model derived from the Cyc knowledge base. Extending the Cyc knowledge-base to model such structured data. Such extension will be "structural", but may eventually include rules and free-form axioms. Extracting relation table names from Cyc concepts and extracting relations and attribute names from Cyc binary predicates. These extracted names will make up the common VLDB schema for a large DOD project and will be the basis for the creation of XML knowledge sharing DTD's. The selected knowledge engineer will play a key role in the knitting together of a large group of disparate structured data sources into one seamless semantically integrated data environment. This environment will be the essential basis for more sophisticated analyses, data mining, and eventually logic based applications. These capabilities will serve an exciting and relevant domain.
