A few sidelights from the Peircean perspective on data analysis.

Returning to the Story of X, consider the 3-adic relationship that
obtains overall among the object space X and the two data spaces:
V, the video archive of taped family interaction sessions, and
U, the data archive of coded observational records.

| o V
| /
| X o---@
| \
| o U

You might recognize this as a 3-adic sign relation, say L c X x V x U,
where V is the sign domain and where U is the interpretant sign domain,
and you might think that it would have to be a "degenerate" sign relation,
decomposing into the composition of a 2-adic "taping" relation T c X x V
and a 2-adic "coding" relation M c V x U, and this might be approximately
true on a local case-by-case basis, but if you think about the whole big
picture of how any significant research programme is actually carried out,
you would realize that there is such an in3cate interaction of feedback
relationships, incremental and radical conceptual evolution, and mutual
readjustments among the three domains, as they develop over time, that
it's all just about as irreducibly 3-adic as any relation can get.

Just a thing to think about,

The Oath of Eratosthenes, otherwise known as "The Sifter":

| I must never forget that the most important thing about the datum
| is how it refers to the objective world from which it is gathered,
| in the way of all signs to be abstract partial samples of objects,
| by virtue of which sampling they denote the vaster reality beyond.
