| Ta de moi pathemeta mathemata gegone.

| My sufferings have been my lessons.

| ~~~ Herodotus, cf. Liddell & Scott.

With all due reflection on the proverb of Herodotus,
if the din of experience is converted into learning,
it is seldom so quickly or so easily as we'd desire,
and so we may ask the critical question: "Why not?"

Consider the "iconoclastic" reading of Aristotle's 'Peri Hermeneias',
where the symbol is a "fragment of a likeness" of its object, almost
as if the form of the object were pressed into clay or wax, and then
the impression (an invert icon, if you will) were broken into shards.

I find myself in need of an omnibus thread to tie together a bunch of themes
that may not all sound like they belong together, but I am sure that they do.
And so I have cobbled together a subject line that ought to just about cover
everything under the sun, as I reckon that this sundry matter will be enough.
