JA: I see that you intend to keep up the act.
Perhaps you believe with no dissemblance
That an ism is just another pretty prism,
But I know you know how truly fractious
They are, so I will just drop them here.
SS: Without commenting on the "pretty", each -ism
represents a culturally sanctioned perspective
upon the world. I try to relate these to each
other in a cultural fabric so as to construct
an intelligible picture of the world as viewed
by our culture.
I wish t'were true, but it ism't.
It's all very pretty to speak in such sanitary terms of sanctions,
but when the die-hard ponents of Catholicism versus Protestantism,
or Capitalism versus Communism, or Empiricsim versus Rationalism,
or Fundamentalism versus Coherentism, or Nominalism versus Realism,
or Fallibilism versus Iamgoddogmatism, ad infinitum, start shooting
at each other, then I must count that one too many verses for poetry.
So I find you guilty of naive romanticism about the-isms.
