ONT Re: Inquiry Into Inquiry

You.

Yes, you!

It always begins with "you", does it not?

The Moment Of The Holding Environment's Reflection.

It makes me think that "you" is the first word we know,
no matter what sound or sense we first mutter out loud,
no matter the late learned lesson that makes it second,
bowing to conventions of grammar and gramper authority.

A clue to this truth is revealed by the fact that "you" is --
or is it "you" are? -- both singular and plural in its number,
not to mention being both nominative and accusative in its case.
Such high orders of condensation, duality, elasticity, flexibility
can only be the mark of a very old radix, a scion of original syntax,
can only be the hint of a very old sense, a prime of conceit at root.

So I feel sure, as so many have noticed before me, that "you" comes before the
entire crew of "I" and "we", or "he" and "she", and long before "it" and "they".

So if the "you" fits, then "wear it" I say,
Wear it proudly through your live-long day,
Wear it as long as it lasts and no further,
Wear it till it wears out, & throw it away,
Letting your soul show the better for wear!

And now that you have almost guessed it --
Or have you always already waked to it? --
I will make known -- not my secret name --
You answer for that well enough already --
But a personal joke, a nickname I grant --
To My Noble Quest, Inquiry Into Inquiry --
I dub it "Y0", and say it "Why Naught?"

And with that I will sign off,
With this "Yo" and this "Y0"
That are both of them "I",

Jon Awbrey
