RE: SUO: Vote on Merged Ontology as a 'Base Document' for SUO WG
Adam,
The question that was put up for a vote was whether the
merged ontology was suitable for a base document for a
proposed standard. I voted no for the same reasons that
Pat gave: it is very far from being suitable as a base
document for a standard, and an enormous amount of further
work is necessary to make it so.

No. I agree with Pat. Neither of us is trying to stop anyone
from continuing their work, and neither of us has a concrete
proposal that we would offer as an alternative.
As I wrote to Ian, I think that his work is worth continuing,
and I sent a request for more information so that we could help
address the "trouble spots". I would be happy to continue
discussing those points and to resolve whatever difficulties
there may be.
But it is still a preliminary document, and it is premature
to bring it up for a vote as a base document. I don't believe
that there is anything in existence today, anywhere, that is
suitable as a base document for an SUO standard.
