[Fwd: Re: Exploring options for a new home in IEEE]

Dear Jim,

I agree with John Sowa (actually I have sent a few notes sometimes
to the Ontolog-forum that appears to me interesting but eventually less
focused than this WG on advanced topics), and I do see the value in
keeping this Working Group alive, particularly for the advanced
philosophical/logical and engineering topics that have been discussed in
the past.

A Standard Upper Ontology Aim in my opinion appear to be a quest for a
Standard capable to support the kind of "enhanced reality" needed by the
the new Global Civilization (similar to some of Ramon Lull or Leibniz
efforts of the past), with all the complexity of the global modern
scientific,social/cultural and technological knowledge, where humans
appears to have increasingly to deal with intelligent artificial agents
and with information embedded in things, materials and diffused in the
physical world.

This is a new competitive global context that is putting several
World-Class organizations, Corporations (and disciplinary "corpa") under
pressure, particularly, where the pace of innovation is low.

So, should arise the need to find another home for the
WG, my suggestion is to look at the Pacific Area because of the
social-economical-technological dynamic of that Area and because of the
Cultural complexity there.

(Actually I am looking myself to find ways to work and do researches
more closely in that cultural/geographical ambit - particularly from
Hawai'i to Japan).

All the best.

Roberto.
