Re doing something that works: I am always in favor of that.
The WWW has already demonstrated that a lot of what they have
specified is useful for things that people are willing to pay for. That is
the ultimate definition of "commercial success".
Re calling the SemWeb "semantic": I really don't care what people
name their children, pets, or pet projects. I'm just afraid of
raising expectations so high that the word "semantics" becomes
tarnished. Everybody who is trying to get grants tends to
promise much more than they can accomplish. (I won't claim to
be innocent myself.) I'd just like to see the hype toned down.
