Re: Technical Editor for SUMO document

Folks,
   Responding to Jim's invitation:

I'm eager to resume management of SUMO. When I started the SUMO project
back in the year 2000, I had no idea how important SUMO would become to my
research and the research of others. Although the project has had its ups
and downs, SUMO has exceeded my expectations, thanks in great part to Ian
Niles' efforts.

I like and respect Allan, and was privileged to work with him, at least
indirectly, for about 7 years. I recall many occasions where his advice
and council was exceptionally helpful. That said, I think I'm best able to
support the continued development of SUMO.

- I started the project and managed it for most of its life (including all
of the period where SUMO was an individual funded project), as well as
doing substantial technical work on it.
- I've authored, or co-authored with Ian, all the peer-reviewed
publications on SUMO's design and development.
- My policy was to release all products based on SUMO as open source under
the GNU Public License. SUMO itself was always released in the public
domain, with copyright assigned to the IEEE. That will continue to be my
policy. While running SUMO, all the dozen or so domain ontologies my group
developed, as well as our software tools, were made available to the public
under GNU license.
- I've personally developed several of the domain ontologies that extend SUMO.
- I'm personally and permanently committed to the development of
SUMO. Even during periods when my job hasn't directly funded it, I spend
my free time on it (and most of the time, I've managed to make SUMO part of
my job).
