SUO: RE: Fw: Let's give it a try
Jim's message was distributed to the mail-list. Matthew and Jon have also
referred to receiving it, since it was the message where Jim accepted Jon's
"offer" to limit postings to 10 per day. (At the time, perhaps no one
realized this would actually increase Jon's volume of postings per day, nor
that most of these postings would be essentially "blank definitions".)
I agree with Jim that Jon's postings of blank definitions are essentially
off-topic and unfocused. Perhaps we should be grateful Jon did not offer to
limit them to 100 per day. Webster's 11th Collegiate Dictionary contains
165,000 entries, so even at 100 per day Jon could keep posting definitions
for the next 4 years.
When I google 'SUO "let's give it a try"', I find a correspondence between
Jim and Jon from November 2001, also about the topic of unfocused postings.
It seems that the group has bent over backwards to be accomodating to Jon.
