SUO: Re: Topic :> Definition Of Intension

Thanks for what Jon has done for what I have ignored!

The concept "the sum of attributes" means a set of attributes which
should never be absent so as to support the existence of a concept from
the view point of an information entity.

When we say A is designated by B we mean that B indicate or specify or
point out A.

Attributes of A can often be promoted in forms such as "A is ...", "A
has ...", and so on and mean the characteristics of A which makes A
different from other objects.

YZ responded:

YZ: 1. Intension is the sum of attributes
or qualities shared by the objects
        the concept or item designates.

YZ: 2. An intension is just a series of attributes.

YZ: In a distributed environment, there may
be different intensions for one concept
    or item.

Dear Yang Zhanmin,

(Incidentally, could you advise me which of
these names you'd prefer by way of address?)

Thanks once again for the very apt input.

As you are no doubt aware, all of the additional terms that you
adduce in your response are used in a variety of ways. Once this
stepwise developing discussion gets past the stages of rudimentary
initialization, I hope to begin a more careful, critical, comparative
examination of the variety of uses, and also of the various philosophies
of logic and, indeed, the sundry practices of semiotic that underlie
them.

Aiming toward this objective, could you provide us with references to
the literature, or other indications of the communities of inquiry and
interpretation where the notions that you mention are used in the ways
that you exemplify? If so, that would be a great boon to the process.

It would, in particular, be helpful to have additional information with
regard to
the technical uses of Attribute, Designation, and Sum that I believe I
can detect
you adverting to here.

Gratia In Futuro,

Jon Awbrey
