SUO: Re: Some Clarification

Jim,
It is impossible to conduct a rational discussion in this manner,
trying to address unspecific objections from anonymous objectors.
Newspapers do not publish anonymous letters. The fact of making
a statement does not in general make that statement state a fact.
By intervening on the side of the plaintiffs you have prejudged
the issue, made youself a prosecutor, and disqualified yourself
as an impartial arbitrator. If I am doing work that moves the
mission of SUO forward, which I believe I am getting better at
more and more, then that is the main thing. If people believe
that I am not doing that, then they need to present arguments
for their position in this forum, where their cogency can be
examined by all concerned. It is illegitimate to try and
use backchannel means to impose their wishes on others
without airing their case in public. I have not once
resorted to that way of trying to control the process.
It is wrong logically, and it is wrong democratically.
I have already suggested numerous way of alleviating
the volume problem, if that is the only problem.
If it is a real problem, then rational people
will look for ways of solving it that do not
involve the curtailing of bona fide work.
