SUO: Re: SUO Procedures -- Temporary Solution For Volume Problem

o~~~~~~~~~o~~~~~~~~~o~~~~~~~~~o~~~~~~~~~o~~~~~~~~~o

Jim, Matthew,

With regard to the Amended Motion as follows:

Motion. | I move that the Question of Posting Policies for the
         | Standard Upper Ontology Group be placed on the Agenda
         | of the Procedure Work Programme under the leadership
         | of the Procedure Project Leader.

Annex. | Further action with regard to posting policies
         | and practices shall be placed on hold until an
         | explicit policy about postings is resolved by
         | the Procedure Work Programme.

Pending action on the Motion to move formal deliberation of posting policies
to the Procedure Work Programme, and its Supplementary Amendment to postpone
further Action with regard to members' posting practices until such time as
an explicit policy for posting be worked out, I move that the following
course of action be taken, on a trial basis, for evaluation towards
alleviating the volume problem.

1. Subscribe the SUO Main List to the Gmane Newsgroups,
    per instructions given earlier.

2. Advise Group Members who wish to reduce the amount of email
from SUO that they need to open and read, or even attend to,
to have their browsers send all SUO mail to <Trash> or other
null device, availing themselves of the newsreader channel
via the Gmane service to select SUO messages for reading.

3. Everything else, email distribution and SUO archives,
    will remain unchanged.

I think that this course of action would alleviate the substance
of the problem of members receiving more volume of mail from SUO
than they wish, at least until a better solution comes along.
