Re: Reducing Mailbox Load Without Losing Messages Or Curtailing Discussion
To: SUO WG, Prodedure PL, Chair
On several previous occasions I proposed and even introduced
a formal motion that one potential and very quick solution to
the volume problem would be to subscribe the Main SUO list to
a newsgroup service such as Gmane Newsgroups. I could do this
myself in two seconds flat, as it only requires permission from
the list manager/owner, whether IEEE or the Chair qualifies as
that I do not know.
Here is the information that I supplied once before,
at a time when the problem at hand was Real SPAM and
a very hit or miss performance of the SUO distributor.

| One thing that we might look into, that has the potential to solve a
| couple of problems, is to subscribe the list to the Gmane Newsgroups:
|
| http://gmane.org/
|
| This would give us spam-checking service and also
| solve the 'volume' problem that some people have --
| if we ever get back to work again -- as people
| would have the option of using their newsreader,
| where they don't get the news unless they ask
| for it, instead of all that mailbox stuffing.
|
| I guess I will "move" that we look into it.
Perhaps I might get an acknowledgement of this motion this time?
Thanks in Advance,
Jon Awbrey
