Jim,
I am willing to work with you on this, on some conditions.
Though I am constantly tempted to try and solve problems
by the same method or lack thereof that failed the last
time around, I am finding more and more that life is
just plain too short for that, and so I must exert
myself to try other ways, even if their chances
of success are more uncertain.
But I did learn a few generic problem-solving skills
over the course of my education and experience, and
so I have some reason to have confidence in these,
if I apply them with due diligence to the problem.
My first suggestion is that we make this a Topic under the Procedure
discussion already in progress, and for which Project I have already
put aside my other business and onto-logical work to dedicate myself
to the success of on a full time basis.
My second suggestion is that we treat this as a generic issue, working
toward the consensual determination of a provisonal Norm or Policy for
postings by the full body of participants in the SUO Discussion Forum,
no matter what their subscription or voting Status may happen to be.
Both of these suggestions are made in the interests of effectiveness and
efficiency, both with regard to the prospective process of provisonally
arriving at Codes, in the sense of Norms of Conduct, a Process that in
the appropriate senses may be called their Legislation or Negotiation,
and with respect to the application, implementation, and revision
of those Codes themselves, the last on account of the fact that
we all know how quickly Aims, Environments, Means, and Ways
all continue to change in these ever-transitional times.
But I will not accept the diminished status of
either a scapegoat or a test case for what are
obviously generic issues, that have arisen in
the past with others besides myself, that were
neither addressed nor solved in an open, public,
principled, and rational way, that will no doubt
arise in future with others besides myself, but
that I have ever-renewed hopes Can and also Must
be resolved with more Justice the next time around.
I would be willing to work with you, Matthew,
and the rest of the SUO Group on that issue,
on that Basis of Understanding, but nothing
short of that Level of Comprehension of the
real and true nature of the problem in view.
