SUOPT :> Defect. Note 3

o~~~~~~~~~o~~~~~~~~~o~~~~~~~~~o~~~~~~~~~o~~~~~~~~~o

JA = Jon Awbrey
PG = Pierre Grenon

PG: Every once in a while, I feel the urge to give you my best friendly advice.
Since you requested that I do not write to you personally but through this
list, I'm indulging in your delusional ways, although this is probably not
the best thing I could do to help you. I've even resubscribed to the
list for the occasion. I think this message suggests a constructive
methodological move on the side of this group.

Patient says:

JA: In this usage, a defect is analogous
to a symptom rather than a cause,

PG: Do you think that your 'contributions' are symptoms
or causes of the useless grab bag of utter nonsense
    that this list has become?

JA: and so one is able to address real defects
in much the same way that one treats real
    symptoms, long before uncovering their
True Cause (Vera Causa), if ever.

PG: It's good that you speak about symptoms,
it's odd that you don't recognize your
condition as the vera causa of the
dump you have made of this place.

JA: On the down side, remedies that do not address the cause are
likely to give only "fast, temporary symptomatic relief", as
they blurb, and so the corrective actions that are chosen on
the basis of partial knowledge are likely to need repetition.

PG: I don't know what's your history, something you seem to be very
interested in unlike most people in the world who give a shit
about your drinking tea or watching Startrek on a friday night.
'Fast, temporary symptomatic relief' is what you are doing with
your posts, as you remark, that requires repetition and in this
case this is the very source of exhaustion of this group's effort.

PG: The cure is elsewhere: start a weblog (really do it).
Maybe IEEE will be willing to provide the webspace for
the sake of this group (this is pretty much what it does
with this list anyway). This will give you what you need
and will relieve the rest of us. People who have feelings
for you will cherish your weblog and read it on a daily basis.
It won't be spammed by these mean party poopers with messages
relating to the intended purpose of this group or with notes
from people who do not understand you or just want to kill
democracy in the egg by repetetively asking you to lower
the debit of your post or to make them substantial.

Dear Dr. Grenon,

I have logged your observations on the chart.
