In substance:
JA: In the monitory logging process that I am presently developing to
address this problem, and that I am still trying to work a few of
the bugs out of, my procedure has been to read through each draft
of the Procedure specification that Matthew has been writing, and
simply to take note of the terms that appear to present a problem,
often by dint of lacking any clear definition, or else by seeming
to be used in ways that are out of sync with any definition that
I can guess. Beyond that, I have only been able to do a slight
bit of look-ahead, trying to anticipate a few other terms that
commonly arise in relation to these, either as near synonyms,
or exemplifying, modifying, specializing, or subsuming terms.
CA: But where does 'quantifier' come into this?
It came in partly as a "Related To" link when I was thinking about
Qualifications, in the sense of properties that qualify a document
or a procedure for consideration, regard, trust, and so on, and in
association with Qualifier, that I picked as a generalizing notion
to cover stuff like adjectives, adverbs, conditions, contingencies,
deviations, dispensations, distortions, exceptions, exclusions,
exemptions, extensions, extenuating circumstances, hedges, and
a host of other words in that same family or Gedankenkreis.
I will eventually have to explain that I view the Quantitative line
of concepts as lying in close correspondence with the parallel line
of Qualitative concepts, so I am guessing that your puzzlement here
is due to the fact that I owe you this account, or on account of my
use of terms like Quantification and Quantifier rather more broadly,
but on the same continuum or spectrum with their use in logic alone.
But I will just have to owe you that one for now.
Saved (both of us) by the dinner bell ...
