Re: SUO: Revised motion on OpenCyc, SUMO, IFF, CL, et al.
John,
Thanks for reminding me about Open Office. I have used it when
necessary to deal with MSWord documents, but seldom use it otherwise
because it takes 30 to 45 seconds to load on my poor old 400mhz Pentium II
machine.
However, when the CL abstract syntax document is displayed (or printed, or
PDF'd) from OpenOffice, all the special symbols that are sourced as
entities (e.g., ∪_) show up as question marks.
The web browsers I use generally do pretty well with the special screen,
but don't translate the special characters properly to print, either.
Amaya (the W3C browser) does pretty well. Unfortunately, it doesn't space
them properly, so that the math symbols overprint the surrounding text.
One of these days this will all work, but do you have any suggestions as to
how I can get a readable printed copy _now? Perhaps there is some way to
get Open Office to access these symbols, but I haven't had a chance to look
into it yet.
Best,
John Velman
