You have hit the nail on the head, my friend! It is nice to see that a
newcomer has a) picked up on this; and b) has the guts to say something
about it in the open.
The sad fact is that there is a very low signal/noise ratio on this list,
something which I and others have complained about in the past. I've asked
for moderation - nope. I've asked to split the political stuff off into
another subgroup - nope.
So, what I (and some others) do is to create our own little virtual list by
paying attention to those who warrant it and piping the rest to /dev/null.
