SUO: Re: Sign Relations & Communication

¤~~~~~~~~~¤~~~~~~~~~¤~~~~~~~~~¤~~~~~~~~~¤~~~~~~~~~¤

Seth, my use of quotation marks with variable names
appears to be causing such inessential complexity that
I am going to junk my initial example and try to craft
another that illustrates the same thematic. It is merely
about finding more inclusive ways to achieve a modus vivendi
or a modicum of "commensurability" among the various and sundry
styles of speaking and thinking about formal objects, for example,
ideas (mental and platonic), numbers, properties, sets, and so on,
that we actually observe being used in practice.

From now on, I will try to insure that all of the signs
and interpretant signs that I invoke in my examples, and
that includes affective impressions, cognitive concepts,
and mental ideations, will appear in either quoted or
bracketed form, for example, "cat", [dog], etc.

Here is the initial situation
of general denotation or
plural reference:

| Rover o
| \
| \
| Specs o--o "Dog"
| /
| /
| Trixy o

It may help to imagine a scenario in which
a person shouts out, "Come'ere, Dog!", and
three dogs less nominally non-descript than
that generic monicker suggests nevertheless
all come a'running.

Here is the DB form of this sign relation:

o-----------------------------o
| Sign Relation L(1) |
o---------o---------o---------o
| Object | Sign | Interp |
o---------o---------o---------o
| Rover | "Dog" | ... |
| Specs | "Dog" | ... |
| Trixy | "Dog" | ... |
o---------o---------o---------o

Now, I'm not exactly sure how you think of your concepts,
but if I think on the sentences that I have read you
to (w)rap around the word "concept" and its kin,
then I would venture a guess that you might
want to flesh out the table thus:

o-----------------------------o
| Sign Relation L(2) |
o---------o---------o---------o
| Object | Sign | Interp |
o---------o---------o---------o
| Rover | "Dog" | [Dog] |
| Specs | "Dog" | [Dog] |
| Trixy | "Dog" | [Dog] |
o---------o---------o---------o

Maybe I should stop here, so you can let me know if I have
guessed wrong, and if the requisite modifications can be
accommodated within my accustomed frames of reference,
then I will amend.
