SUO: Permission to use Upper CYC(r) Ontology
SUO WG,
The IEEE attorney has given the SUO WG the go-ahead to utilize the Upper
CYC(r) Ontology, based on integrating Cyc's copyright clause into the IEEE
copyright clause (see below). Doug Lenat has also given his blessing for
this (see his message below).
I am not suggesting or presupposing what, if anything, we will do
with this content, but at least we have this permission and can explore
options.
One thing that concerns me, I'm not sure how this copyright clause
will impact products that incorporate SUO content. Are there any commercial
vendors that could explore this?

Jim,
This is fine. Sorry for the delay.
Note the the R after Cyc is (r) not R. I.e.,
registered trademark. I.e., the sentence
"Additionally, since this draft contains substantial content from the
copyrighted Upper CYCROntology"
should be
"Additionally, since this draft contains substantial content from the
copyrighted Upper CYC(r) Ontology"
And yes, we'd like to have someone join the group.
Regards
Doug
