SUO: Grand Salmar Station

Following is a description (with URLs) of Grand Salmar Station (GSS),
which is a system for creating and maintaining news announcements,
discussion forums, and other kinds of postings over the Internet.

I don't know whether GSS would be exactly what is needed for the
PORT and/or SUO projects, but the whole system was implemented by
one person, using Perl and the PostgreSQL database system. It's
all distributed freely under the GPL license, so anyone with Perl
experience can modify it, extend it, or get some ideas for designing
something similar, better, or just different.

You can also look at and try using a sample application of GSS:

Have you ever wished you could share information across your intranet
without having to train each and every member of your staff? Do you
dream about a self-maintaining intranet that creates all your links for
you, automatically expires old postings for you, and generates complex
indexes so that when you search for something, you find it? What if
it was so simple that seconds after you are up and running, your users
could start taking advantage of the information locked up in that great
collective intelligence that is your office?

Welcome to Grand Salmar Station, the easiest Intranet system you've ever
used. The Salmar Intranet provides a centralized starting point for all
documentation, reference material, and internal announcements.

Check out these features!

Intranet categories can be created on the fly for different types of
information such as:

Technical support documents

News announcements

Job postings

Internal policy documents

Discussion forums

To see (and try) a typical GSS installation, go to

Latest postings are a click away on the "What's New" page.

All updates happen via your browser, through the intranet itself. No
need to sharpen up your command line skills!

Old postings are cleaned up automatically - no need for the
administrator to individually clean up dated information.

You have the ability to control which groups can be modified by your
users while still giving them access to protected information.

NO HTML TRAINING is required!

Easy to customize, install, and administer.

Implemented in Perl and PostgreSQL, distributed freely under the GNU
General Public License (GPL). Runs on Linux or any Unix-like system.
