Yes, it was a brilliant analogy. Of course, real plumbing also
requires U-bends.

I apologise for being careless. "Romex" is a trade name but is widely
used in the generic sense. I should have referred to NEC-NM-14/3
and -14/2 repectively (use 12/ for 20amp circuits.)
I have in fact seriously thought of making a living as a
plumber/electrical contractor. In the meantime, I do good work, but
charge consultancy rates :-)
