SUO: VOFIOTI

Arisbeans,
As I embark on my fifty-third year, what would otherwise be
the Year of the Joker, the Wild Card, the Supernumerary, the
one card too many in the deck, my sense of the meta*perverse
makes me determined to get serious about one thing at least.
And if I have to pick one card from the deck, it will be this:
The bearing that pragmatic philosophy in general,
and Peirce's way of thinking in particular, will
have on the future of our life together, that is,
here, on this planet, if not beyond, with all of
the hopes and all of the fears that we now share.
Well, that is, as they say, too broad a topic
for a single essay, or even a single lifetime,
but there you have it -- I will stick with it!
And yet, I do still need a more focussed focus
for the sake of this particular forum, and so
I will address myself, here, to the technical
matter of how the logic that Peirce gave us,
beginning circa 1870, might be adapted, and
even evolved in a natural way, to serve as
a "Vital Organ For Inquiry On The Internet",
acronymically, a "VOFIOTI", which suggests,
at least for me, a "Living Organon" with
a "Learning Organization" to support and
to be supported by it, in the appropriate
co-evolutionary manner that all of Nature
is known to exploit so well and pervasively.
So let me try to concentrate on that sacred duty.
All mumbo-jumbo about the love-hate relationship
between theory and practice aside, not forgotten,
I just cannot imagine anything better to do with
the rest of my breath and the rest of my life ...
