I disagree with John Sowa that "Excel is a dead-end technology" without more explicit context. I would suggest that the context "for collaborative working" is appropriate but that this negates the benefits of his alternative technologies because individuals should not have to be "down in the weeds" worrying about processing HTML or the like. Phil Jackson, on the other hand, has alerted us to a far more exciting prospect (thanks Phil for an excellent suggestion). However, I am concerned that, just as we have begun to receive junk e-mail because I suppose that someone has trawled the web pages for addresses, surely the address for the database is now in the public domain. Arguably, this puts any effort in building up the database at risk of attack (I have not checked what backup tools are available for use within Quickbase). The only way that I can see round this is if we agree to use Quickbase in the long-term for us to start again and someone to issue the address directly to bona fide SUO participants (assuming that we consider e-mail to be sufficiently secure).
Cheers,
Tim.
