RE: A web-based SUO Glossary -- RE: SUO: More Documentation, Please




Jim, and all,

On further thought I recommend and request that people experiment with the
Glossary at https://www.quickbase.com/db/6urbwpxk to see the mechanics of
editing and viewing information, and to develop feedback about the value of
this approach, but that people not invest too much time putting information
into the database until we are sure we want to go with this approach.

There are a variety of questions to consider:

1) is this an adequate, acceptable structure for a glossary database?

2) right now the database shows me as its "owner", though everyone can
modify content. In principle the database owner should be IEEE or Jim
Schoening -- I would be glad to work with Jim to set this up, if desired --
it would not take very much time though it might not be easy to preserve the
information in the example database "owned" by me.

3) Jim may wish to check whether there are any legal issues involved in use
of Intuit Quickbase for the SUO Glossary -- My understanding is that
Quickbase is freely available (for up to 3 mb storage) and open to this kind
of use, but to be sure, I am not a lawyer.

Finally, Quickbase could also be used to set up a user-modifiable database
of requirements for SUO, to support tracking SUO assumptions, requirements,
etc... The only disadvantage would be that it would not have the kind of
outline tree structure I'd recommend, but we might be able to emulate that
somehow...
