KIF Standard
Dear Group,
This is in response to the several messages over the past few days regarding
the status of KIF as a standard. NCITS/L8 has an open project on the books
for KIF, but the project never reached an official dpANS status (despite the
title on the document at the KIF web site). Because there is an open
project, L8 invites anyone who is interested in progressing KIF to a
standard to join the committee and engage in the work.
L8 has an ad hoc Special Interest Group that meets monthly at NIST outside
Washington, DC. Official meetings of L8 occur 3 times a year, always in
conjunction with SIG meetings. Announcements of all meetings are sent out
via email over the L8 reflector. Let me know if you want your name added to
the list.
The SIG is where the technical work of the committee takes place, and anyone
with an interest can come (in person or by phone and net-meeting) and
participate. The fee to join and become a voting member is $600 per year
per organization.
Please let me know if you are interested. I don't know how long it will
take to progress KIF to a standard, but I know it never will be one if
people don't commit to making it so.
Yours,
Dan Gillman
