SOme results from the Heidelberg Meeting
Josiah mentioned the Heidelberg meeting, which occurred in the summer
of 1998. This was a private meeting whose results have been, thus
far, kept fairly private, certainly not as open as this discussion,
to be sure. I was not at this meeting, however I happen to be in the
next office at the moment from someone who was (Nicola).
I'm not sure if the results of the meeting were meant to be kept
private, so I will share only one thing that I know of that came out
of that meeting and subsequent email discussions, because I think it
impacts this list:
Nicola came up with the following classification of all the
discussion threads. I suggest we use these as a basis for organizing
the discussions in this group:
Identity of events
Language vs. ontology
Methodology and purpose of this effort
Multiple inheritance
Ontology of relations
Role of upper level ontology
Static concepts
Structuring relations
Things, Events, Situations
Use of logic, KIF, etc.
Vagueness and precision
Wordnet and Eurowordnet
